![]() When it comes to search engine optimization, one of the most important aspects is still the keywords that you chose to represent how your website is indexed. Because most of the single keywords and common phrases have been taken by well moneyed corporate interests, a good long tail keyword strategy is essential to the success of most campaigns in the modern online business landscape. Below are just a few of the ways in which you can tweak your long tail keyword strategy to enhance the success that you have in your search engine optimization campaign. One - Do not overuse the same long tail keyword too much. Updated algorithms in the major search engines filter many uses of the exact same keywords as spam. The trick is to build links with what the major search engines consider synonyms to your main keywords as well as with your main keywords. You can easily find out what the major search engines consider synonyms by looking up your words on the free tools that they give out on their websites. Long tail keywords especially should not be overused if there is anchor text involved. Anchor text means more to the major search engines; however, the punishments are much worse if keywords are overused in this manner. Two - Use different long tail keywords for each of the pages on your website. There is no reason that every page on your website should not have a different long tail keyword as its central focus. This long tail keyword strategy will allow you to lift more than one page to the top of the search engines for different keywords instead of just one. On top of this, you can actually connect the different long tail keywords between each other so that they show up on each other's lists as well. This is a relatively new analytic that is known as "ubiquity," which helps to serve a website with improved trust. Three - Build links consistently but do not be too fast. Another change that the major search engines have implemented is to actually punish sites that build links with long tail keywords too quickly. In order to avoid this fate, make sure that however you begin to build links is how you continue to build links. To have consistency is the most important part of this tactic. Four - Build links with long tails connected to URLs and the other way around. Most people build links with the long tail keyword prominently featured; however, most of those webmasters do not build links the other way around. On a webpage, search engine spiders look for related terms on a webpage, not just the keywords themselves. If a page does not have the related terms on it, then the search engine will disregard the keywords as well, no matter how many times that they appear on the page. Five - Use the appropriate HTML codes around your keywords. Judiciously place your main keywords inside of the appropriate HTML codes to signal to the major search engines that these are the important words on your page. You can use header tags, bold tags or italics tags. Contrary to popular belief, one does not necessarily signal more value than another. Also, do not overuse the long tail keyword strategy as it will be interpreted as spam if the same keyword is found in special tags all over the page. |
